A day of rest and orders for the proper tools to begin dyeing...

I rested today...I was surprised to discover I was as tired as I was from the Lorna Luft performance last night. I think I had a rough time falling asleep the sad news of the premature death of Whitney. At the age of 48...Life is not fair and she has given me so many memories in her strong voice and lyrics. I ordered renewal dyes and the proper supplies to do three different dyeing techniques. I will post them as I work both here at home , in my studio downtown and at Dawes educational building for the very long large pieces of fabrics. I had to reorder the loner length in the dye gloves so I do not walk around with blue skin for a month ...smile because Smurfs are really cute! I meet with Laura tomorrow to finalize the type of proposal that they will need to forward some funds to help me get started. I also will cut the new bolt into favored sections of the heavy cotton fabrics while I refresh my recipes for the colors I am working for. Vibrancy in colors and the movement of the cloth is integral for this installation in the living trees. I still wince when I hear them talk about using steel nails put into the tree limbs. I am thinking grommets tied with....something fairly invisible but strong.?. Ken went over my rough draft with a red pen tonight for me ...so I do have something to play forward in the development of this project.
I am learning so many aspects of this preparation process... I just remembered I need to order a face mask for the dye powders used in the mixtures for safety sake.

I am rereading Drawing from Intuition by Dean Nimmer. This is a great book whenever you need some assistance leaving your fears at the door plus hopefully have a little fun to Making your Art. I just love his abbreviations TBC...to be continued. I think he and Marilyn Stocker could have a wonderful collaboration if he ever comes to Newark or Columbus!!!

Have a wonderful week in your studios and remember to DREAM Big!!! Happy Birthday JoAnn still in Florida on Monday...and Mary Thedos who is a Hero for all of us at Licking County Arts!!! You are so loved!!! Blessings, Mary Helen Fernandez Stewart
