Recognize the power of a young painter's marks...

I finished my Midland brochures...but it took most of the day so I have to decline the next time... because I have so much to do before next Friday. They love my penmanship...12 years of Nuns...and I enjoy the flowery flow of the pen and ink but yikes I had several visitors today who had many questions and the first art exhibit next Friday.

Haley finally came in and she slowly brought in her works for the first exhibit in "Whispers and Echoes Studio". We had missed seeing each other all week and were in the same neighborhood...the very same block. Messages seem to fall through the cracks when I physically walk over to The Works and no one passes on the messages. Email is nice and phone messages will work but I still enjoy the face tot face conversations with others working to enhance the Arts here in Licking county. I have most of the works in the studio and went out to buy the hanging supplies and I advised Haley to paint the edges very carefully a matte black to give the impression of the frame. I recognize the feeling...what if I put my work up there on the wall for the world to see...and no one shows up???? We have made postcards to mail out and hand deliver to some of the cards directly to people and their businesses on the downtown square. Hopefully I can get a small article into the newspaper to let others know how we are participating in the Final Fridays Art Walk. One step at a time and one smile...one encouraging word...patience...remember to do your best and let the pieces fall where they may.

I visited the girls after their first day of school and delivered delicious cookies for their after school snack. My eyes began to fill with moist tears when I realized how quickly they are growing up ...whoa... I wish I could slow down the whole process. My grandchildren are miracles in my life and such a joy to include in this new chapter in my life. They will try to attend next week for Haley's opening. I have another student for a private collage class with one of my volunteers from Art Camp. Casey is 11 and will be 12 in November. She is so eager to work on her first canvas so I am looking forward to being with her for the whole afternoon. I have a board meeting for the Licking County Convention and Visitors Burea at 4 pm in Granville but we should have plenty of time to explore.

Still no baby...Erin is ready... oh so ready to welcome this little big Boy...I am guessing now...and I want her to be able to relax soon and see her feet once again. She took the babies into Ken's classroom today to visit Grandpa...this takes a lot of preparation and organization to get everyone into the car and to the school. Remember Art Saves Lives! Larry and Sarah have a new puppy and our visitors from Groveport Loved her!!! Every child loves a puppy and she wants to be a veterinarian. I included a couple of photos from the upcoming exhibit! Hope you are getting excited! The power of a youthful eye for making Art!

  2. I so enjoy reading your blog and hearing about the upcoming events. Children really do help us see the world differently. How wonderful that your grandchildren are a large part of your life.

  3. Seems like you are always helping young people experience art (at least as long as I've been coming to your blog). Nothing like molding the younger generation in a positive way.

I wanted to comment on a comment you left me about Simply Spray Fabric Paint. I agreed to write a tutorial in exchange for using it, but I do NOT have to endorse it (or evaluate it). My advice is to save your money. Although each can goes a long way, I found it very disappointing. At least for what I used it for, which was shibori type dyeing of fabric. Also, I had trouble with stencils and masks, but that could again, just be me. My tutorial will be ready later in the week, so you can judge for yourself, but at about $6.00/can, I don't think it's worth the cost.
