RSS feed readers...?

Does anyone out there know what a RSS feed reader actually is? I am hoping to hear from one of you enlightened generous spirits out there in "blog world". I have been asked to be on facebook and to tweet on twitter but as of today my blog is the simplest method for me to connect with other artists who live far away and have a new idea to share with me in my log cabin!
